Trend Also Helps HIV Patients
Sculptra is approved for use in Europe and has been
used on more than 150,000 patients over the last five years.
The manufacturer, Aventis, a subsidiary of Dermik Laboratories,
Berwyn, PA, says that cosmetic trials in the U.S. are planned
for this year, and it will seek FDA approval for Sculptra
as a wrinkle treatment. In the meantime, many U.S. doctors
are using Sculptra to erase wrinkles and fill in cosmetic

Approves Sculptra (Injectable Poly-L-Lactic Acid)
Dermik Laboratories, the US dermatology arm of Aventis, announced
that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved
SCULPTRA (injectable poly-L-lactic acid) as the only
product for the restoration and/or correction of the signs
of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) in people with human immunodeficiency

Injectable poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra, Dermik Laboratories)
recently recommended for approval by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration for HIV-related facial lipoatrophy will

help available for Sculptra
patients
Currently, anyone suffering from lipoatrophy and making less
than $40,000 per year is eligible for free product. Under
the program, patients still have to pay the doctor's fees...When
Dermik Laboratories first started the assistance program,
they estimated that more than 150,000 people would take advantage
of it. As of today, less than 5,000 have applied for aid.
